Dr. Visser-Jones’ remarkable story embodies the college’s commitment to excellence, diversity, and fostering educational advancement.
Born into the Karen ethnic minority in Burma (Myanmar), Dr. Sandy Visser-Jones transitioned to Southern California at the age of 16. Her innate curiosity about the human developmental journey led her to a passionate pursuit of a career in early childhood education. She has served as an infant, toddler, preschool, and elementary school teacher, demonstrating her commitment to shaping young minds. Additionally, her role as a site and fieldwork supervisor for student teachers highlights her dedication to nurturing the next generation of educators.

Throughout her tenure, Dr. Visser-Jones’s contributions extended beyond the classroom. She has actively participated in various VVC committees and has held significant leadership positions, including VP of Programs-South and Catalyst for Region 9 for California Community College Early Childhood Educators (CCCECE). Her involvement in the State Chancellor’s Office Early Childhood Advisory Committee further underscores her influence on shaping educational policy.

Her pursuit of knowledge and growth led her to the University of La Verne, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Child Development, a Master’s Degree of Science in Child Development, and a Doctor of Education Degree in Organizational Leadership.
